Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar Issues Demands Raila Odinga Should Meet if He Wins Election

Wiper Party Secretary General Hassan Omar has outlined new demands that the National Super Alliance (NASA) must meet should its presidential candidate Raila Odinga win the coming elections.

The Mombasa Senator stated that the key ministries of Foreign Affairs, Internal Security, Finance, Defence and Infrastructure must be given to residents of the Coast should NASA form the next government.

Omar disclosed that should this fail to happen, the Coast Region will walk out of NASA within three years.

The senator, who was speaking at an Iftar (First evening meal after fasting during Ramadhan), said that previous regimes have given the Coast region a raw deal, treating the region as "flower girls".

“We are usually given the insignificant ministries of gender and sports, youth, women affairs and tourism. Do we look like tourists?” Omar asked.

Omar, who will be vying for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat, demanded that NASA government should address the land issue at the Coast within three years, “or else we (Coast region) stop being with them (NASA).”

He will be competing against Suleiman Shahbal of Jubilee and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who is the perceived political kingpin in the region.

Previous attempts to convince Omar to drop out of the race in favour of Joho had failed.
