Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MCA Aspirant Abdirizak Ishmael Beaten Up During Repeat Nominations

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Aspirant Abdirizak Ismail is nursing injuries after he was attacked by supporters of his rival during repeat party nominations in Garissa County.

The repeat ODM nominations were ordered by a Nairobi Court after the challenger, Ibrahim Ali sought an injunction when Ismail was issued with a certificate by IEBC returning officer Dulacha Boru.

Ismail who is vying for Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Galbet Ward was roughed up after a dispute erupted at the Kefri polling station.

The fracas started when Ali adamantly disputed the closure of the polling station after party returning officer Stephen Odhiambo ordered that it be closed at 5:30 pm.

Ali reportedly stormed the polling station demanding his people be given the chance to cast their ballots.

Ismail came to the polling station to question what was happening when Ali’s supporters allegedly attacked Ismail and brutally beat him.

Police were later called in to restore normalcy with the youth destroying the ballots.

The ODM aspirant was later rushed to a private hospital where it was determined that he had sustained head and body injuries.

“My competitor went out and came back with goons and mercilessly beat up my supporters and myself. It’s by the grace of God that I managed to escape,” the victim condemned the incident while speaking to journalists from his hospital bed.

Ali could not be reached for comment but according to one of his staunch supporters, he had travelled to Nairobi to seek another court injunction.
