Governor Evans Kidero and Peter Kenneth Team Up Against Mike Sonko Over DP William Ruto's Role

Nairobi County Governor Evans Kidero has supported Independent Candidate Peter Kenneth’s assertion that Deputy President William Ruto was getting involved in Nairobi politics.

Speaking to a local daily, Governor Kidero accused DP Ruto of planting his surrogates in the city in order to run the county by proxy.

Kidero alleged that Ruto had assumed an active role in drumming support for Jubilee Party Nairobi governorship candidate Mike Sonko.

He claimed that the move by the DP was part of a grand scheme to position himself ahead of the 2022 elections.

"The team that is running for Nairobi seats cannot talk to Nairobians unless he (Ruto) is present, Nairobians want their own governor whom they choose,” said Kidero.

The governor further added that sentiments that had been levelled against Ruto in Kiambu, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Kericho, Kajiado and Bomet Counties that he interfered with the elections could be true.

Kidero’s sentiments came days after Kenneth accused Sonko of being Ruto's proxy and claimed that he rigged him (Sonko) in during the Jubilee nominations.

In a quick rejoinder, however, Sonko refuted the accusations as baseless propaganda and that Governor Kidero had sensed defeat.

“If he (Kidero) has found Nairobi hostile because for the last four years he has not been there for the electorate, then he should not drag the DP's name into that,” warned Sonko.

Kidero, Kenneth and Sonko will face off in the August 8 polls for Kenya's populous city.
