Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa Calls for Bombing of Boni Forest to Drive Out Al-Shabaab

Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa has called for the bombing of Boni Forest in Lamu to eliminate Al-Shabaab militants hiding in the region.

Marwa stated that the terror group had taken over the forest from where they have been launching attacks before retreating back to hiding.

“These people made Boni Forest their home and started to stage attacks and then retreat without even running. I can’t understand this myself… we need to bomb that forest,” Marwa stated.

He was speaking in the wake of a series of deadly Al-Shabaab attacks in the region that have seen many Kenyans lose their lives and property destroyed.

Marwa vowed to storm the forest and drive out the terror group that has made the expansive forest its playground.

Marwa, who was speaking on Thursday at a press briefing at Mtongwe ferry channel, disclosed that he can no longer watch people being killed.

“I will get in there if they (KDF forces) are afraid of getting in (the forest). The forest is in Kenya and not in Somalia. We must get in there," he said.

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) were deployed to the forest in September 2015 for a mission dubbed 'Operation Linda Boni'.

The operation brought together multiple security agencies to secure the forest and drive out the terror group that is a nightmare to many locals.

About two years later, the militants continue to stage attacks while operating from the forest.
