Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko Declares 40 Days and 40 Nights of Prayer Ahead of Elections

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has given an open invitation to all Kenyans to spend 40 days and 40 nights with him offering up prayers ahead of the General Election.

In a poster shared on his Facebook page, the Senator expressed confidence that he would win the Nairobi Governor seat in the August 8th polls.

He, therefore, urged his followers to use the remaining days until the elections to pray for what he called a "divine journey" of transformation for the county under his leadership.

Senator Sonko further fueled his claim that he is like the Biblical character Nehemiah by quoting a Bible passage from the book of Nehemiah, the third chapter.

The chapter outlines the names of the Israelites who rebuilt the wall of Jerusalem after being under Babylonian exile.

A media report that was published yesterday indicated that the Jubilee candidate along with his "Team Nairobi" counterparts were undergoing strained financial times that could explain their reduced public campaigns.

Sonko, however, clarified that he had scaled down his campaigns as a tactical move dismissing claims that he is broke.

"Those who think Sonko is broke are in for a rude shock. I have deliberately opted for house-to-house, business-to-business and estate-to-estate campaigns while my running mate Polycarp Igathe meets business and professional groups," he said.

He explained that he had taken a low profile, reducing his campaigns after it emerged that his opponents were allegedly hiring thugs to harass the public and loot during his rallies.
