Former Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Joseph Nkaissery's wife, Hellen Nkaissery, on Wednesday narrated her last moments with her husband.
Speaking at her palatial home in Bissil after meeting her family members, she recalled that the day the CS died was their greatest moment in their marriage.
Mrs Nkaissery in an emotional mood recalled the happenings of the day and the last few hours with the former Major General before he collapsed and died.
“I remember vividly what transpired on that fateful day. I had just had a meeting with more than 500 women in Kajiado Central. After that, I arrived home here in Bissil and decided that I will be with my husband on that Friday," she stated.
Hellen divulged that later in the day, she called her husband’s driver to come pick her up from the rural home.
"I was later told the only vehicle available was my husband’s chase car. I told them to come over, and I arrived at our Karen home in good time," she highlighted.
She further asserted that in the evening, Nkaissery arrived home at around 9 pm in a jovial mood and made several calls to his friends including President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Mrs Nkaissery further revealed that she slept at 11 pm while her husband went to pray within the house before following her to bed.
After some minutes, she heard a loud bang and on checking, she found the Minister unconscious.
"He came to bed and we slept. After about 20 minutes, I heard my husband wake up and walked out of the bed. I thought he was going to the toilet but a few seconds later, I heard a loud bang on our bedroom table. I woke up to find him on the floor," she stated.
She said that she attempted to lift him but the CS could not make it to his feet. She then called his aides who rushed in immediately and helped her rush him to Karen Hospital which is a 5-minutes drive from their home.
On arriving at the facility, the doctors pronounced him dead. Nkaissery’s body is currently lying at the Lee Funeral Home.
