Charles Maina Moves to Court to be Recognised as Senator GG Kariuki's Son

A man has moved to court seeking to be recognised as a legitimate son of former Laikipia Senator the late Godfrey Gitahi Kariuki.

29-year-old Charles Maina filed a case at Nakuru court asking that the Senator's family is forced to recognise him and include him in the burial preparations.

Speaking to the press after filing the case, Maina claimed that he had been sidelined by the family and had even been blocked from attending the requiem mass of the Senator.

He noted that he had a cordial relationship with his father adding that he had supported him all along and had even discussed a succession plan once he quit politics.

“The late Laikipia senator was very supportive of me. He even opened businesses for me. My father was very close to me. Every now and then we would hold talks on so many issues," he stated.

Through his lawyer Kahiga Waitindi, the applicant affirmed that he was not interested in inheriting Mr Kariuki's property but all he wanted was recognition.

He affirmed that he had a right to attend his father's burial set for Friday maintaining that he was ready to take a DNA test in order to ascertain his claims.

The Senator, who was not seeking re-election passed on two weeks ago while undergoing treating at a Nairobi hospital.
