President Uhuru Kenyatta Waives Sh11 Million Debt Owed to AFC as Requested by Ababu Namwamba

President Uhuru Kenyatta has made good on a Sh11 Million deal as requested by the Labour Party leader Ababu Namwamba.

The Budalangi MP had requested President Kenyatta to grant a waiver on the massive debt owed to the Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) by 200 members of the Bunyala Fishermen Co-operative.

AFC had taken the farmers' title deeds as security for the millions of shillings they had obtained as loans and had been holding the documents for more than 10 years.

President Kenyatta has since asked AFC Managing Director Lucas Meso to write off the debt and return all the titles by close of business on Thursday.

The Co-operative's Chairman, Mr Ben Mukhulo, was overjoyed with the move and welcomed well-wishers to make donations to help the Co-operative get back on its feet.

Speaking on Wednesday, Mr Namwamba revealed that the government had disbursed Sh25 Million that would go directly to the AFC to repay the debt.

"We requested the President to waive the debt. It is quite encouraging that the national government has released the money and our fishermen will get their title deeds back," Namwamba lauded.

The Budalangi MP is seeking re-election in the upcoming General Election on a Labour Party ticket, after he defected from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in 2016.

Namwamba and his new party have declared their support for President Kenyatta's re-election. He, however, denied claims that he had been paid to support Jubilee.
