DP William Ruto Accuses NASA's Raila Odinga of Evicting People from Mau Forest

Deputy President William Ruto launched a scathing attack on National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer Raila Odinga saying he was behind the Mau Forest evictions.

Ruto was speaking in Kuresoi where he urged residents to vote for the Jubilee Party because Odinga was behind their woes.

“Do not gamble with Raila Odinga.

"He is the same person who kicked you out of your homes in the Mau in 2009,” said the DP, who spoke in Kalenjin throughout.

The DP also took a swipe at NASA's recent woes in court saying the losses have led them to claim that Jubilee wants to rig elections.

“They have been moving to court to oppose manual backup, BVR (biometric voter registration) kits and printing of ballot material.

"They are now trying to block elections from taking place on August 8. We would like to inform them that the elections date must be August 8,” he said.

Last month, a group of over 2,500 evictees from Maasai Mau Forest in Narok County withdrew their support for President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto.

The evictees noted that they would support  Odinga in the August election as the Jubilee administration had failed to resettle them after being evicted in 2015.

Led by their Chairperson Robert Mutai, the evictees stated that the Jubilee government promised to compensate them in 2013 but had not done so and had even omitted them from the list of those to be compensated in July as announced by the DP.
