4 People Killed in Nyeri Road Accident

Four people died on Tuesday evening and several others were injured in a grisly road accident that occurred at Embassy area, near Dedan Kimathi University in  Nyeri County.

The collision involving three personal cars and a lorry occurred along the Nyeri-Nyahururu highway.

The accident was reportedly caused by a lorry which lost control while trying to overtake other vehicles.

Police confirmed the incident stating that the driver of the lorry was drunk at the time of the accident.

Nyeri Central Divisional Police Commander Muinde Kioko noted that the driver of the lorry who escaped unhurt had since been locked up.

“We have arrested the driver and are still gathering facts on what transpired. But the driver appeared intoxicated at the time of the arrest,” he stated.

Mr Kioko noted that they were investigating the matter and could charge the driver with causing death by reckless driving.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Nyeri County Referral Hospital mortuary while the wreckage was towed to Nyeri Central Police Station.
