Council of Governors Asks IEBC to Publish Details on Ballot Papers

The Council of Governors (CoG) has issued a new demand concerning ballot papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Led by the CoG Chairman, Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok, the team has asked IEBC to publish the quantity and serial numbers for gubernatorial ballot papers for each polling station in all counties.

In a statement, Governor Nanok further asked the electoral body to reveal the exact number of extra ballot papers they have printed for each of the 47 counties.

The governors indicated that adherence to the demands would be in line with the electoral body's tenet of transparency.

"The Council of Governors takes cognisance of the fact that only 12 days are remaining to the 8th August 2017 General Elections and appeals to the IEBC to ensure the polls will be free, fair and credible," the statement began.

The Chairman's statement went further to outline their motivations in listing their demands two weeks to the election date.

"As such, the Commission must provide the necessary logistics to ensure Kenyans exercises their democratic right of voting.

"The Council of Governors, therefore, requests the Commission publishes all the above information immediately for purposes of accountability and transparency," the Governors outlined.

Ballot papers for the Governor, Woman Representative and Senator seats jetted into the country on July 18 and were taken to IEBC warehouses under tight security.
