Presidential Candidate Joseph Nyaga and NASA's Musalia Mudavadi Lose Title Deeds in Land Records Cleanup

National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principal Musalia Mudavadi has been named among alleged land grabbers who have lost acres of land after an abrupt cleanup of land records by the government.

Also on the list published in the KenyaGazette is Independent Presidential candidate Joseph Nyaga.

The National Land Commission (NLC) Chairman Muhammad Swazuri announced that the body had revoked title deeds after receiving complaints from the National Government, County Governments and the public.

The 77-page document listed hundreds of Kenyan land owners who now have to prove they acquired their land legally.

"The commission via public notices in the national dailies invited all interested parties to appear before it to inspect documents and make written and oral representations and submissions.

"Consequently, the commission has made determinations in respect of the following grants/titles and orders for revocation, regularisation, upholding of the titles where applicable as indicated or given further orders. Where the order calls for revocation, the Chief Land Registrar is thereby directed to revoke as per Section 14(5) of the National Land Commission Act and attendant laws," Swazuri's document read in part.

Mudavadi is accused of having been illegally allocated land meant for public housing in Woodley, Nairobi.

The NASA leader's two other pieces of land in Kanyakwar - Kisumu as well as land in Kakamega inherited from his father have been repossessed by the commission.

Kisii County ODM senatorial candidate, Prof. Sam Ongeri, has also had his land reverted back to the ownership of Kisii County Government after it emerged that he acquired the land during his tenure as a Cabinet Minister in the KANU administration.

Kasarani MP John Njoroge has lost parcels of land that originally belonged to two unnamed primary and secondary schools in Mwiki, Nairobi.

Most of those affected by the cancellations are politicians, former top civil servants, lawyers and businessmen.
