Kisumu Jubilee Party Offices Vandalised, Furniture Torched on Claims of ID Buying

Jubilee Party offices in Kisumu were Thursday vandalised by enraged youth who claimed that the officials were planning to rig the upcoming elections.

The youth broke window panes from the house-cum-offices before taking furtniture outside the rental house and burning it.

They accused the party officials of buying national identity cards from voters with an intention of using them to rig in their candidates.

The protesters recovered 12 IDs, four waiting cards and one passport in their operations, further fueling their outrage at the alleged plot.

In addition to the identification documents, the youth found a block book with a list of people's names and their corresponding ID numbers.

The house is said to belong to a Jubilee candidate vying for the senatorial seat in the upcoming election, Mr Ochoro Ayoki.

A similar accusation has been registered against gubernatorial candidates in Kiambu, including Jubilee's Ferdinand Waititu.

In a complaint to authorities, incumbent Governor William Kabogo has accused the Kabete MP and other candidates of buying ID cards from Kiambu voters at Sh500 each.

"I do not know for how long my opponents will play cheap politics. They have hired youth who are visiting homes and collecting IDs from other young people, claiming they are from the county government.

"Arrest them and take them to chiefs or police. They are my opponents’ agents paid to do that dirty job," the Governor demanded.

He further cautioned the youth from playing into the alleged scheme.
