Kirinyaga Gubernatorial aspirant Anne Waiguru has been dealt a major blow after her close political ally and former Jubilee Chairman John Mithamo declared support her rival Narc Kenya's Martha Karua.
Speaking during a Narc Kenya rally in Gichugu Constituency, Mithamo, who is vying for the Ndia Parliamentary seat as an independent candidate, declared that Ms Karua was his ideal candidate for Kirinyaga governor seat.
The Parliamentary aspirant stated that his decision was based on the fact that Karua’s name was not tainted with scandals.
“Ms Karua is an honest leader compared to her rivals and that is why I have thrown my weight behind her. Her party has also endorsed the re-election of President Kenyatta whom I do support," Mithamo stated.
Karua expressed her gratitude and welcomed Mr Mithamo whom she described as an admirable politician.
"I know Mr Mithamo very well and I’m ready to work with him," Karua highlighted.
The former Gichugu MP stated that she was confident of clinching the seat and called on the residents to turn out in large numbers and vote for her.
Waiguru, who is vying on Jubilee Party ticket, will face off with Karua and incumbent Governor Joseph Ndathi who is vying as an independent candidate.
