Meru Man Arrested by Police for Voter Bribery

A man in Meru County was on Tuesday roughed up by police before being thrown out of the polling station after he was caught bribing voters.

The man has been identified as the Meru County Agriculture Chief Executive Commissioner, Mr Severino Kinge Manene.

He was allegedly paying voters on the queue before plain clothes police apprehended him.

The man pleaded for his life as angry voters threatened to lynch him, however, the police led him out of the polling station.

According to the Elections Offences Act, any person found guilty of directly or indirectly offering a bribe to influence a voter to vote or refrain from voting for a particular candidate or political party should be fined Sh2 Million or face a six-year jail term or both.
