The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Wednesday night admitted that there were attempts by unknown hackers to hack into their result transmission system.
The commission, however, noted that the attempts to break into their system did not go through and assured Kenyans that everything was safe.
IEBC Commissioner in-charge of the ICT committee Yakub Guliye, while addressing the media, stated that the system was intact and nobody had gained access despite the attempts.
“We have seen attempts by some people to hack into our system but they did not succeed because we have invested heavily in a surveillance system.
“There was attempt but there is no evidence of access. The alleged hacking is not our system. Claims the system was hacked are not true," Guliye stated.
The Commissioner's remarks were a complete opposite of what IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba had submitted earlier when he noted that the system was safe and secure and that there had been no attempt to hack into it.
The commission made the remarks in response to claims by National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga that the system had been hacked and presidential results tampered with.
The opposition leader revealed that the hackers created errors in the document that had presidential votes.
"They loaded an algorithm that created a constant gap of 11% (between Uhuru and Raila)...they also introduced programs that can manipulate data.
"We have sufficient proof that they effectively disabled the system from detecting date and time thus they were able to add and delete data.
"What IEBC has posted as results on the presidential election is a fraud," revealed Odinga.
