SRC Announces Pay-Cuts For IEBC Officials

The salaries of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials have been reduced days after the General Election was conducted.

In a gazette notice, Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) Chairperson Sarah Serem stated that top IEBC officials will now earn Sh747,461 down from Sh765,188 per month.

Serem noted that the changes would also affect the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and chairpersons of all constitutional commissions.

Members and vice-chairpersons of all constitutional commissions will have their basic pay reduced from Sh650,000 to Sh621,250 a month.

The IEBC Chairman and the Attorney General will, however, retain their basic pay of Sh924,000 a month.

In July, SRC reduced gross salaries for all state officials including the president and the deputy president

President Kenyatta’s pay was reduced from Sh1.65 Million to Sh1,443,750 with DP Ruto earning Sh1.2 Million down from Sh1.4 Million.

Governors' salaries were also slashed to Sh924,000 from Sh1.06 Million while the county deputies' salaries were slashed from Sh701,441 to Sh621,250.

Senators, Members of Parliament (MPs) and Women Representatives will also be taking home Sh621,250 as opposed to the Sh710,000 they have been earning.
