Nairobi Governor-elect Mike Sonko Asks Evans Kidero to Stop Activities at City Hall

Nairobi Governor-elect Mike Sonko has hit outgoing county boss Evans Kidero with four demands which he should meet by the end of Tuesday.

In a letter addressed to Kidero, the former Nairobi Senator wants him to form a transition committee constituting of six members, three from the former Governor's camp and three others from Sonko's side.

This, he says should be done by the end of Tuesday failure to which he will head to court.

"Please liaise with us in the meeting of the foregoing objectives to enable us secure the best interests of the residents of the Nairobi City County and note further that our client has instructed that in default of your responses by the close of business August 15, 2017, we have instructions to seek legal redress,” part of the letter reads.

Sonko has also ordered Kidero not remove any items from the Governor's office at City Hall or any other office materials belonging to the county.

As per the letter, the Governor-elect also wants the outgoing boss not to withdraw any money from the county government accounts.

Finally, the incoming Governor has asked Kidero to refrain from committing the county government resources by entering into any contracts with a third party.

According to Sonko, this will ensure a smooth transition from Kidero to his administration, curb financial misappropriation as well as have proper and accurate records.

Meanwhile, the Governor-elect has cautioned Nairobi residents against a group of people at City Hall soliciting for bribes and claiming to be his staff.

In a statement to the press, Sonko noted that the cartels are now claiming they can speed up pending contract payments and influence the award of fresh tenders.
