IEBC Ballot Box Found Dumped in Turkana 1 Week After Election

An abandoned ballot box has been found in Turkana County a week after the election.

The damaged ballot box was discovered at Napilin junction by a herder who was heading to Kakuma area.

The Jubilee Party Chairman for Turkana County, James Kuya, said that he received a call from a traveller who has headed to Kakuma and arrived on scene immediately.

He went ahead to explain that the ballot box was labelled governor and that the bottom of the box was broken, suggesting that the ballot box had been tampered with.

"I don't know what exactly was inside because I supposed the box would be in IEBC's custody. It means that many of these ballot boxes have been thrown away," said the Chairman.

Addressing the press after the election, Jubilee's Gubernatorial candidate John Munyes said that "IEBC won in Turkana on behalf of NASA".

"IEBC won for Nanok for his county team and many constituencies, they have won three out of six. We were fighting Presiding Officers, the clerks, the police system. We were just against all odds, they won," he said.

Munyes lost the gubernatorial seat to the incumbent, Josephat Nanok who was vying on an ODM Party ticket.

Mr Munyes, who is yet to concede defeat, lamented that the county had never been through such a flawed election before.

Nonetheless, he urged the Turkana public to restrain from violence.
