Panari Hotel Facing Closure Over Cholera Outbreak

The Nairobi County Public Health department has moved to court seeking to close the Panari Hotel, which is located along Mombasa road in Nairobi, over Cholera outbreak.

A petition filed at City Hall courts stated that 20 NIC bank employees who had a workshop at the hotel on July 20 developed Cholera symptoms.

The Ministry of Health also conducted investigations and found out that a worker at the hotel had tested positive for Cholera.

A letter sent to outgoing Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero revealed that two people who had been admitted to the Mater Hospital in Nairobi claimed to have eaten fish and salad from Panari Hotel.

Panari Hotel has continuously received notices ordering it to close down from both the National and County Governments.

On July 28, Nairobi Health Public Officer Jairus Musumba sent a closure notice to the hotel's management asking for re-examination and valid medical certificates of employees.

Musumba also demanded food hygiene licenses for 2017 and the certificate for food preparation and serving bays.

The case filed at city hall courts was adjourned to August 28.

In July, the government closed Jacaranda and San Valencia hotels following suspected cases of Cholera outbreak in the county.

The hotels were shut down after offering catering services to different events where attendees later reported symptoms of the water-borne disease.

The two hotels have since been re-opened.
