Three people have been killed and several houses torched after suspected Al Shabaab militants attacked Maleli area in Witu, Lamu County.
Lamu County commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo confirmed the incident stating that police officers have been sent to the area to access the situation.
Reports indicate that the three were hacked to death by their attackers who also set three houses on fire at the early morning incident.
The Nation reports that the armed gunmen launched their attack at around 12.30 am as the villagers slept.
"Armed to the teeth, they targeted men as they spared women and children," one of the residents stated.
The residents noted that after the attack the militants disappeared into the bushes.
The attack comes only a few days after five police officers were killed in Garissa in an ambush by the suspected terrorists.
