22 Youth Suspected To Have Joined Al Shabaab

22 youth missing from different parts of Uasin Gishu are suspected to have joined outlawed groups including Al Shabaab.

This is according to county commissioner Abdi Hassan who said the information is based on intelligence.

Families of the missing youngsters often fail to report their disappearance, a habit which Hassan condemned during an interview by KNA.

He encouraged parents of the 22 to report their whereabouts if they are aware, to quell the suspicion of their having joined the said group.

"We don’t want to sit around thinking everything in our county is alright when such a large number of youths cannot be accounted for," he said.

The concerns come in the wake of a tussle of sorts between Al Shabaab militia and the Kenya Defense forces especially in Kenya's Northern Region.

There have been allegations of the militia targeting jobless Kenyan youth for recruitment using money as an incentive.

In his speech during Madaraka day celebrations, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that an anti radicalization program will be rolled out.

The program will focus on youths who are the likely target of terror groups.
