A section of leaders from Nyanza region, which is a NASA stronghold, has declared support for President Uhuru Kenyatta who is facing a petition at the Supreme Court.
The leaders, who vied on a Jubilee ticket but lost during the concluded election, affirmed that they would continue supporting the President to ensure development for the region.
Led by Tom Otieno Onyango who vied for Homa Bay governorship, the politicians promised to work with the Jubilee administration.
Speaking on Thursday, they called on President Kenyatta to consider the region in his development agenda even if most residents voted for Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
“All Nyanza people need to be considered too because they pay taxes, the President belongs to all of us,” Onyango stated.
At the same time, the leaders urged their supporters to remain calm as the country awaits the ruling of the Supreme Court on the case challenging Kenyatta's win.
Onyango further noted that Kenyans should exercise restraint in order to allow the seven judges hearing the case to perform their duty.
“Even though there is a court case which is set to deliberate on the issue, we are asking the people of Nyanza to be patient. As the Jubilee members from Nyanza region we are asking our people to wait for the verdict and to maintain peace in the region,” the politicians added.
He was speaking during a strategy meeting of Jubilee leaders in the area which was also attended by Christine Atieno Otieno, who vied for Kisumu gubernatorial seat and Dan Salim Akello, who lost in the Siaya gubernatorial race.
