Kirinyaga Woman Rep-elect Purity Wangui Ngirici Accuses Governor Anne Waiguru of Disrespecting Her

Kirinyaga Woman Representative-elect Purity Wangui Ngirici has torn into her recently close ally, Governor Anne Waiguru for allegedly planning to humiliate her during the swearing-in ceremony.

In what seems like a tale of a love gone sour, Ms Ngirici, a well-known tycoon in Kirinyaga, accused Waiguru of not reciprocating on loyalty even after she (Ngirici) mentored the former Cabinet Secretary to join politics.

"Respect is a two-way traffic and if Ms Waiguru does not respect me as a duly elected leader or as her mentor, then I will not also recognize her," the women-rep threatened.

Ms Ngirici revealed that together with her husband, they provided resources for Ms Waiguru when she was starting her campaigns for the governorship.

"After sacrificing too much to have Ms Waiguru elected, she is now turning against me.

"I'm not interested in sharing power with the new governor. All I want is respect and if she continues undermining me she will know that I'm an elected leader who does not fear anyone,” she lamented during an interview with the Nation.

Ms Ngirici further explained that her decision to skip Waiguru's swearing-in ceremony was because she was disappointed in the Kirinyaga governor and had also caught wind of a plan to jeer her at the event.

"My intelligence informed me that there was a plan to humiliate me once again and that is why I failed to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Ms Waiguru," she added.

The embattled politician further disclosed how Ms Waiguru’s supporters humiliated her soon after she was declared the winner in Kerugoya Town.

"When I was declared the winner of the seat by the county returning officer, Ms Waiguru's supporters burst into songs as they mocked me.

"Ms Waiguru who was also announced the winner of the gubernatorial seat was present and did not stop her supporters from mocking me. I was very annoyed," Ms Ngirici maintained.

The brewing rivalry between Ngirici and Waiguru comes as a surprise to many considering how close the two were during the electioneering period.

During Waiguru's swearing-in, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria accused Ms Ngirici of going around the region fighting Ms Waiguru.

"Ms Ngirici has started undermining the newly elected governor even before she settles down to work. This is very unfair. She should stop what she is doing immediately," said Mr Kuria during the ceremony attended by Deputy President William Ruto.
