The Supreme Court of Kenya kicked off the trial of an election petition put forward by National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga with a pre-trial conference on Saturday night.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati as well as President Uhuru Kenyatta are named as respondents in the Odinga petition.
After the initial hearing the seven-judge bench is expected to issue rullings on 10 applications made by the petitioners, the respondents and other interested parties seeking to be enjoined to the petition.
The major rulings include an application by Senator-elect James Orengo, on behalf of Mr Odinga, who sought the indulgence of the court in compelling the IEBC to submit original copies of 40,833 Form 34As as well as 290 Form 34Bs.
The petitioners also sought to have documents, they alleged were served late by the respondents, expunged from court records.
The Opposition team's lawyers also sensationally sought to be granted "unfettered access" to IEBC servers.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, represented by lawyers Fred Ngatia and Ahmednasir Abdulahi, is seeking to have the court deny five new affidavits submitted by the petitioners claiming that they were not presented within the time allocated by the court.
Four parties are seeking to be enjoined as amicus curiae (friends of the court). They are: Attorney General Githu Muigai (assisted by State Counsel Charles Mutinda), the Law Society of Kenya led by Stephen Mwanesi and the ICT Association of Kenya represented by Kamotho Njenga.
Lawyer Charles Kanjama also appeared as a proposed intended amicus on his own behalf and would later anger Chief Justice Davida Maraga when he spoke out of turn.

Lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui applied on behalf of presidential candidate Michael Wainaina who is seeking to be enjoined to the case,in opposition to the NASA petition arguing that IEBC conducted a free and fair poll.
The court will also grant or deny the application by Thirdway Alliance presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot to be enjoined as the first interested party in the case who was represented by lawyer Elias Mutuma.
The second interested party in the case simply introduced himself as Isaac Aluor Chier.
CJ Maraga, Deputy CJ Philomena Mwilu, Justices Jacton Ojwang', Smokin Wanjala, Njoki Ndungu, Mohamed Ibrahim and Isaac Lenaola are expected to deliver their ruling on these matters at 7pm on Sunday.
