Six people have been burnt to death at Toll village in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County.

The six include a man, woman and four children.

Police confirmed the incident adding that they suspect the house was set ablaze by the woman's husband over a row on family cash.

The police cautioned against unnecessary speculation and have launched an investigation into the accident.

Area chief Mildred Chesoli noted that the couple had been having a series of disagreement in the past.

"I even told them to seek legal advice," she stated.

Neighbours on the part explained that the couple had been fighting frequently adding that they heard children screaming at 11:00 pm on Monday night but were not able to get to the house on time to save the victims.

"The couple had been fighting frequently. When we arrived, the house was covered in smoke and the doors and windows had been locked.

"We managed to break the door but it was too late. We found the mother's body on the floor. The children were under the bed and the man's body was in a separate room," one of the neighbours stated.

Bodies of the victims have since been taken  to Kitale hospital mortuary.
