Wilson Sossion Set to Take Oath as Nominated MP

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion has made a return on his resignation as an ODM Party nominee for Parliament.

Mr Sossion has now stated that he will not turn down the offer, adding that he is already in Parliament to take an oath of office.

“I am already at the chambers, ready to be sworn in,” he told the Nation today morning.

The change of heart by Sossion comes amidst calls by Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli requesting nominated trade unionists not to turn down their places in Parliament.

“We ask the two unions not to fall prey to some external forces, interests and pressures to either relieve these elected union officials of their positions or be coerced into calling for their resignation because as workers we are no doubt set to benefit greatly,” Atwoli stated.

Last week, Sossion asked the ODM Party led by Raila Odinga to remove his name from the Party's parliamentary nominees list.

Speaking in Kabarnet, Sossion stated that he had declined the nomination to focus on commitments to KNUT.

He asked ODM to consider someone else for the position in the party list to represent workers rights.

Prior to his resignation, reports had emerged indicating that Mr Odinga's Party was working on a plan to replace Sossion with outgoing Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto in its nominees to the National Assembly.

The Party's officials confirmed that the matter on nominating Isaac Ruto had been brought up at meetings but was not received well by some members.
