2 Embu Residents Seek De-gazettement of Idd Ul Adha Holiday

Two Embu residents have rushed to the High Court seeking to have the gazettement of Friday as Idd Ul Adha holiday for the Muslims revoked.

The residents petitioned the court to de-gazette the day and have it declared a national holiday for Kenyans of the other faiths.

They argued that the decision made by acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i was unfair to the non-Muslims.

On Wednesday, Matiang'i, through a gazette notice, declared that September 1 would be a holiday to celebrate the Idd Ul Adha.

However, he specified that it would only be celebrated by members of the Islamic faith maintaining that the rest of the Kenyans would continue working.

After the announcement, a section of Kenyans took to various social media platforms to share their displeasure making different comments disputing the directive.

Some social media users called out Dr Matiang'i saying that his directive was discriminating based on faith.
