Senator Kipchumba Murkomen Reacts to Supreme Court Ruling

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has reacted to the nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta's win in the August 8 polls.

Mr Murkomen pointed out that despite the misgivings of the supreme court ruling, Jubilee supporters should not react carelessly but observe calm and sobriety in handling the matter.

In a message on his Facebook account, the senator urged those disappointed by the nullification of Uhuru's victory to do what they would have expected National Super Alliance (NASA) supporters to do had the court ruled in Jubilee's favour.

"I ask all our supporters to behave honorably despite the misgivings we have about the SCORK (Supreme Court of Kenya) decision. Let us do what we would have expected our competitors to do had we won.  Let us do unto others what we expect them to do unto us in the near future," he stated.

The Supreme Court on Friday overturned President Kenyatta's victory noting that the election conducted by the IEBC was marred by irregularities that affected the final results.

Chief justice David Maraga noted that the IEBC committed various illegalities affecting the integrity of the polls.

“A decision is hereby issued that the elections held on August 8, were not conducted in accordance with the Constitution and the applicable law. The results are therefore invalid, null and void,” Chief justice David Maraga said.

He added: "Elections is not an event but an process. After considering the totality of the entire evidence, we are satisfied that the elections were not conducted in accordance to the dictates of the Constitution and the applicable principles."

Meanwhile, President Kenyatta has said he personally disagrees with the decision of the Supreme Court to nullify his re-election but accepts and respects it.
