President Uhuru Kenyatta Sends Warning to Chief Justice David Maraga

President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued a threat to Chief Justice David Maraga after the Supreme Court nullified his win in the August elections.

Addressing a rally at Burma market in Nairobi on Friday afternoon, Uhuru told Maraga that he now had full presidential powers after the Court nullified his win.

"Hapo awali nilikuwa rais mtarajiwa...si Maraga na watu yake wamesema hiyo uchaguzi ipotelee...sasa mimi ni rais ambaye amekalia kiti. Maraga ajue kwamba sasa anadeal na rais amekalia kiti (Before the Supreme Court ruling, I was the president-elect but Maraga and his team have declared the election as null and void...I am the incumbent President with full powers. Maraga should know he is dealing with a sitting President)," he affirmed.

He added that he was ready for the repeat election, noting that he had already begun planning for the polls that are 60 days away.

Tuko tayari for round two na tayari tumeshaanza mikutano yetu tukijitayarisha (We are ready for round two and we have already begun our strategy meetings)” he affirmed.

He was accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Majority leaders Aden Duale and Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.

Reiterating the president's words, Mr Murkomen declared that the Jubilee Government will now remove the Supreme Court.

“Hii mambo ya Supreme Court tutatoa kama serikali ya Jubilee..(As the Jubilee government we will do away with the Supreme Court matters) ” he stated.

Earlier, Kenyatta expressed his disappointment on the ruling by the six-judge bench saying “I disagree but I respect the ruling of the Supreme Court.”
