Police Spokesman Charles Owino has confirmed the arrest of a man who has been masquerading as a police officer on Facebook and once threatened Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho.
Only known as "Alfie Kipchirchir" the imposter has been issuing threats in a series of messages over the past few months - including shortly before and after the August 8 elections - gloating about killing people in Kisumu and threatening to kill others.
Early this year, he had posted a threat message targeting Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho.
"The man was arrested about two weeks ago but the matter was now being handled by the CID (Directorate of Criminal Investigations)," Mr Owino stated.
The Spokesperson further stated that he was not aware of any other processes the suspect had been taken through.
"I am yet to get the details of his arrest, whether or not he was taken to court or even released," Mr Owino told Daily Nation on Sunday.
A search conducted on Monday revealed that the Facebook account in question most recently posted a threat on Friday after the Supreme Court ruled to nullify the August 8 presidential election.
Hateful messages posted by "Kipchirchir" involve hits on members of his targeted community as well as threats made out to select high-ranking politicians in the opposition.

Kipchichir came to the limelight in December after he posted a chilling message vowing to kill MP Millie Odhiambo and Suna-East lawmaker Junet Mohamed.
The suspect had claimed to be a field commander at the Kenya Police Training College, Kiganjo and a member of the Presidential Escort Unit.
