Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi Shames Peter Munya for Joining NASA

The Governor has termed Munya's move as political suicide, warning him that no member of the Meru community will support him in the Opposition.

Governor Murungi labelled the former Governor as a "NASA mole", suggesting that Munya had always been a member of the NASA coalition.

"We are not at all surprised by Munya’s announcement that he is going to Nasa. We have said it before and even said so during campaigns that he was in NASA and (was) principle number six after (former Bomet governor) Mr Isaac Ruto.

"We know that his campaigns were financed by NASA and that is why there were frequent trips by Raila Odinga, Moses Wetang’ula, Hassan Joho and even Musalia Mudavadi and they always came and urged Meru people to vote for Munya," Governor Murungi stated.

Governor Kiraitu further told Mr Munya to make good on his promise to petition the courts over his loss in the Meru gubernatorial race, expressing confidence that the courts would uphold his election as Meru Governor.

"He thinks because the Supreme Court decided to nullify Uhuru Kenyatta’s election on the basis of some technicalities [it can also] nullify my election on the basis of legal technicalities.

"But all the people know that IEBC did an excellent job in Meru and they delivered a free, fair, transparent election in accordance with the Constitution and all electoral laws and the people of Meru freely expressed their will, rejecting him as the governor of Meru," Governor Murungi told the media.

Mr Munya's has defected to the NASA coalition where he is now the sixth co-principal.

While he alleges to have defected along with the Party of National Unity (PNU), party officials have dismissed the claims.
