Kwale Woman Representative Zulekha Juma Asks Kenyans to Forgive IEBC

Kwale Woman Representative Zulekha Juma has urged Kenyans to forgive the Independent Electoral Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials who committed irregularities in the nullified presidential election.

Ms Juma stated that though the IEBC officials committed a crime, there was a need for Kenyans to shift gears and forgive them.

She asked Kenyans to instead focus on electing National Super Alliance (NASA) Flag bearer Raila Odinga.

“Let’s forgive them, turn over a new page in the spirit of reconciliation and vote overwhelmingly for Mr Odinga as our fifth president,” Ms Juma stated.

“Let us all go out and campaign aggressively ahead of the election to ensure Mr Odinga wins resoundingly,” she added.

The Woman Rep, who was elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, made the remarks despite the constant effort by NASA leaders to see the electoral body reconstituted.

On Tuesday, Odinga named six IEBC officials who he wants to be sent on compulsory leave before the fresh Presidential election.

In a statement to IEBC, the NASA Presidential Candidate stated that the repeat election should be administered by professional and non-partisan officials.

“We demand that officials who are partisan or perceived as such should step aside and or be suspended during the planning and execution of the fresh election," Odinga said in a statement.

"These officials include Ezra Chiloba (CEO) Betty Nyabuto (Deputy Commission Secretary), James Muhati (Director ICT) Immaculate Kassait (Director Voter Registration and Elections Operations) Praxedes Tororey (Director Legal and Public Affairs) and Moses Kipkogey (Manager Legal Department and Advisor to the CEO,” he added.
