Petition Filed Against Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko

A Nairobi resident has filed a petition challenging Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s victory in the August 8 polls.

Japheth Muroko wants Sonko’s win nullified on grounds that the election was not conducted in a credible manner.

Muroko claimed that there was massive non-compliance with the Constitution and Election Laws.

He alleged that the agents of former Governor Evans Kidero were denied access to most polling stations.

Muroko further stated that some agents were only allowed access to specific polling stations after voting had taken place.

Currently, 120 newly-elected leaders are facing ouster after petitions were filed in court to challenge their respective victories.

Among those who might be ejected include; 15 Governors, 4 Senators, 3 Woman Representatives, 35 Members of Parliament and 62 Members of County Assemblies.

The highest number of County Assembly seats being challenged are in Kakamega, Kisii and Turkana Counties, with each having five contested outcomes.

In Nairobi, former nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro moved to court to challenge the election of her rival TJ Kajwang for the Ruaraka Parliamentary seat.

Also challenging the outcome of the polls is Francis Mureithi, who lost the Embakasi East seat to ODM’s Babu Owino and  Steve Mbogo of ODM, who lost the Starehe race to singer Charles Jaguar Kanyi of Jubilee.

Others who filed cases in Nairobi are ODM's Ishrad Sumra, who challenges the election Julius Musili of Wiper Party as Embakasi South MP.
