Former President Mwai Kibaki's Sister-in-law Dies

Former President Mwai Kibaki is in mourning after he lost his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Mimbi Githinji.

Mrs Githinji, who succumbed to a short illness, is the mother to newly-elected Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi.

Nderitu Muriithi is the son of Mwai Kibaki's elder brother, the late Phillip Muriithi Kibaki.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday sent a message of condolence to the family, relatives and friends of the deceased.

In his message, the President described Mrs Githinji as a dedicated mother and role model to the community.

President Kenyatta noted that Muriithi’s mother was a woman who inspired many people in achieving their goals.

“We will always remember Mama Elizabeth as a lovely and dedicated Christian, who was kind and loving,” said the President.

Mrs Githinji's cause of death, however, remains unknown.

Governor Muriithi, who vied as an independent candidate, beat Jubilee Party's Joshua Irungu after he garnered 100,342 votes against Irungu's 98,349 votes.
