How Bishop Ended Chiloba – Chebukati Feud During IEBC Naivasha Retreat

Catholic Bishop Alfred Rotich, motivation speaker Wale Akinyemi, and Dr Peter Kiriri were all present during IEBC's retreat in Naivasha in a bid to calm the tension that was brewing within the commission.

According to sources, the three were called in to prevent a fallout that had threatened to jeopardise the October 17 repeat election.

It is reported that the three speakers took more than 6 hours with the electoral commission bosses "advising and cautioning them" on the impact of their internal wars.

Rev. Rotich is said to have asked the commissioners to be wary of their public conduct, warning that should one falter, the entire IEBC would go down, thus leading to a major political crisis in the country.

Dr Akinyemi took the commission through experiences from other jurisdictions and how crises had been solved.

He repeatedly quoted from some of his motivational books while Dr Kiriri made a presentation on how to handle disputes in places of work.

The speakers listened attentively as each of the commissioners ‘opened their hearts’ and spoke freely on what they thought had gone wrong in the August 8 polls, The Standard reported.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati and CEO Ezra Chiloba have for the past weeks been engaged in a tussle after a leaked memo indicated the chairman was far from pleased by the deeds of Chiloba in the August election.

Speaking during a press briefing on Monday evening, Chebukati assured Kenyans that the poll body was united after the meeting and they were ready to deliver credible elections.

Details of the closed-door meeting were scanty yesterday and only seven commissioners led by the chairman and Chiloba attended.
