Babu Owino's Whereabouts Unknown After Dramatic Re-arrest

New details have emerged concerning the dramatic arrest of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino just moments after he had paid bail charges at the Milimani Law Courts.

The Embakasi East constituency office has issued a press statement claiming that the lawmaker's whereabouts are unknown.

"We still don't know where Babu Owino is. We don't know what transpired at night. We don't know where he was taken yesterday after being transferred from Pangani Police Station," read the statement released early Thursday morning.

The statement further invited "Kenyans of goodwill" to join Babu's supporters in demonstrations to demand his immediate release as he is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday morning.

Officials from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have revealed that the police have revisited past charges brought against Mr Owino.

Among other accusations, the police are said to have revived charges of possession of illegal firearms.

In addition, the youthful legislator will allegedly answer to assault charges for violence meted to his former challenger for SONU Chairmanship post Mike Jacobs as well as  Embakasi East aspirant Joshua Otiende.

ODM Communications Director Philip Etale has also revealed that Babu's lawyer, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, lost his phone and money during the dramatic arrest.

"In the dramatic rearrest of Babu Owino, there were no civilians. Only cops. So who stole Otiende Amolo's phone and money?" the director accused in a Tweet.

Mr Owino will be arraigned at the Kibra Law Courts on Thursday at 9am.
