Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto Denies Joining Jubilee Party

Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has declared that he has not defected to President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party insisting that he is still in Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM).

In an interview with the Standard, the ex-governor noted that he had resolved to support President Kenyatta's but had not joined the ruling party.

"I have not defected; I am still the party leader of Chama Cha Mashinani. I was persuaded to support President Kenyatta's re-election by the need to keep the community together," he stated.

Ruto further noted that he supported the President because more than 60 percent of the people who voted for him in the Bomet Gubernatorial contest voted for the Jubilee candidate in the Presidential contest.

"Only 35 percent agreed with me and voted for NASA. I did not want to continue disagreeing with the 60 percent," he stated.

He explained that he even refused to wear the Jubilee kofia (cap) to signal that he had not defected to the party.

On claims that he was threatened to join Jubilee party, Ruto stated that "I heard some people saying that I was threatened but there is no such thing. No one offered favours."

Regarding claims that he was set to be appointed as a Cabinet Secretary, the CCM leaders dismissed the claims adding that he had not discussed that with anyone.

Earlier this month while addressing a Jubilee rally in Kapkatet, Kericho, Isaac stated that he was fully behind Kenyatta and was confident he (Uhuru) would emerge victorious in the upcoming poll.

"I am here to confirm that we have joined you (President Kenyatta) and we will vote for you," he stated.
