Cabinet Member to Lose Job Over 'Anti-Government' Facebook Post

A member of the Kwale County Executive Committee (CEC) risks losing her position after she posted an anti-government Facebook post.

Ms Safina Kwekwe, who served as the CEC minister for Trade, is accused of having posted comments that defamed the County Assembly.

The Facebook posts in question were raised before a panel that was vetting her after she was nominated for the Tourism docket in Governor Salim Mvurya's second term administration.

"You have a Masters degree. At least you know how to use a phone through which you could have reached us to raise your concerns but instead you chose to go online," Assembly Speaker  Sammy Ruwa posed.

A ward representative present at the meeting went ahead to outline the hateful comments Ms Kwekwe had shared with the public.

"You called us in no uncertain terms lazy and malicious. You have made too many enemies at the Assembly. You should have called to get the correct information about the Bills," accused Mr Antony Yama, Kasemeni MCA

The Speaker went ahead to reprimand the cabinet official implying that her application to the CEC may be unsuccessful.

"You have now come before the committee for approval. It will not be easy," Speaker Ruwa regretted.

In her defence, Ms Kwekwe stated: "I had no malice nor was I acting in bad faith."
