World Bank Spends Sh159 Million on Maraga’s Team

The Judiciary has received books worth Sh159 Million from the World Bank’s Judicial Performance Improvement Project (JPIP).

Chief Justice David Maraga confirmed that the judiciary had received the books through his Twitter account.

“Received books worth Ksh159 Million for the Judiciary funded by the World Bank's JPIP Project,” CJ Maraga wrote.

The Judiciary headed by CJ Maraga acts as an independent custodian of justice in Kenya. Its primary role is to exercise judicial authority given to it by the people of Kenya.

JPIP, on the other hand, works to strengthen the capacity of the judiciary to provide its services in the project areas in a more effective, transparent, and accountable manner.

On Monday, the Government suspended an international Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that had been funding the Judiciary

International Development Law Organisation (IDLO) was accused of having funded researchers who work for Supreme Court judges thus influencing how they make rulings.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed further called for a meeting of all 14 African countries IDLO has relations with so that “Kenya can provide all the information they have on the organisation”.

IDLO states through its website that Kenya has been its member since 2010.

Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi, however, laughed off the claims that the Judiciary was held captive by non-state actors.
