President Uhuru Kenyatta's Offer to Peter Munya

President Uhuru Kenyatta has promised to work with former Meru governor Peter Munya if he withdraws his petition against incumbent Kiraitu Murungi.

Speaking at a rally in Laare, Meru County on Friday, the Head of State asked the two leaders to bury the hatchet and focus on development adding that he would work with Munya in his government.

"I wish to congratulate Kiraitu Murungi for his election as governor. No one lost here.

"I assure you that even if you lost I will keep my promise and include you in the national government," stated Kenyatta.

The President was referring to the brewing feud between Munya and Kiraitu weeks after the former governor went to court challenging the outcome of the gubernatorial elections.

In the case challenging Murungi's win, the Party of National Unity (PNU) leader wants access to Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) kits before the repeat presidential polls.

On Monday this week, Munya expressed his fears that the materials may be tampered with during the repeat presidential election, therefore, sabotaging his petition.

Among his requests to High Court Judge Francis Gikonyo is that the electoral agency be compelled to file affidavits to inform the court that the materials were intact.

“The information technology used during the August 8 polls should be reserved, if it’s interfered with before our case is heard and determined, our petition will be rendered useless," he noted.

"We’re seeking orders to access the kits, which is not limited to the memory cards, but we want to access the hardware," Mr Munya stated.

He pointed out that the commission intends to reconfigure the kits used in the Meru gubernatorial poll during the October 26 election.
