President Uhuru Kenyatta Rejects Talks With NASA Leader Raila Odinga

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday dismissed calls for talks with Opposition chief Raila Odinga ahead of the repeat Presidential election scheduled for October 26th, 2017.

Speaking in Mombasa on Sunday, the Head of State explained that the powers to elect leaders belong to the people and as such he will leave it for them to decide Kenya's leadership.

“The constitution says that the sovereign power belongs to the people. All power is rested in the people and it is the people who shall decide who will lead them," he stated.

President Kenyatta explained that he had received information about Raila before the Supreme Court ruling that invalidated the August 8 presidential election results.

The President, however, noted that he outsmart Mr Odinga who expected him to reject the Supreme Court ruling.

"I had prior information that his hope was that I would reject the court’s verdict and our people would fight so he could call foreigners to mediate a coalition government.

“We read his thoughts when they were still in the envelope. I was smart and we knew his plans and we said even if we do not accept the decision of the court, we will respect it and go back to seek votes from the people,” President Kenyatta stated.

In a quick response, the former Prime Minister dismissed the President's remarks adding that he was engaging in “cheap propaganda”.

“That is very cheap propaganda. We are not interested in a nusu mkate government. We don’t want to be begging Uhuru or Ruto daily. Moreover, our chemistry can’t rhyme,” Odinga told the Nation.

The Opposition also issued a statement on Sunday evening indicating that the economic situation in the country has been caused by Jubilee Party following their initial plan to rig the elections.

"Kenya is where it is because the President and his Jubilee party tried to steal the elections and were caught and stopped, thus putting the country on a path we have never traveled since independence in 1963," he stated.

NASA further pointed out that corruption is "part and parcel of Jubilee administration" indicating that it has hugely affected the country's GDP.
