NASA Demos Cancelled After Leaders Defect to Jubilee

National Super Alliance (NASA) anti-IEBC protests in Narok town was on Monday cancelled after some Opposition leaders defected to Jubilee party.

Addressing the media, Narok Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chair Charles Nampaso explained that following the defections, the protest had to be suspended to allow the party to elect new office bearers.

Narok North Member of Parliament Moitalel ole Kenta, on his part, noted that those who decamped were traitors adding that the community would not accept them for leadership posts.

Mr Kenta further noted that the high presence of police in the area scared residents from taking part in the protests.

"The police in full anti-riot gear have been going around the town blocking main areas as a way to scare the locals who were planning to come for the peaceful demonstrations.

"When the locals saw the presence of many police officers, they decided to keep off for the fear of being arrested and arraigned as witnessed in the recent demonstrations," he stated.

The legislator affirmed their commitment to ensuring that reforms are conducted in the Commission adding that they would not allow the current IEBC officials to conduct the October 26 repeat polls.

"We are not going to participate in the sham elections until the officials in the IEBC are removed for having perpetuated injustices to Kenyans in the August 8 polls," the MP stated.

Narok County Senator Ledama ole Kina insisted that they intended to effectively plan for future demonstrations and show their critics that they can organise their activities without causing chaos.

The Opposition has been conducting weekly protests to force IEBC into implementing their 'irreducible minimums'.
