Raila Speaks on Being Denied US Visa

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has spoken on claims by a top State House official that he was denied a Visa to the United States ahead of his scheduled trip to New York.

In a Wednesday morning interview on Radio Jambo, Odinga stated that the claims were false and that he would be leaving the country in the evening to deliver a series of lectures.

"I haven't been denied a Visa by anyone. I had been invited to give a lecture in America, but because of these election issues I would need to be out for a week, I couldn't do it. My Visa to the US is still valid for many years," he stated.

"I will be leaving this evening, I will be in London tomorrow to give a lecture at Chatham House on African democracy," he added.

Dennis Itumbi, the Senior Director of Digital Communication in the Office of the President had sent out a tweet claiming Odinga had been denied a Visa to US ahead of his scheduled trip.

This came two weeks after foreign envoys threatened to use travel restrictions to keep rogue politicians in check.

Mr Odinga announced the withdrawal of his candidature at a press conference held at Okoa Kenya offices on Tuesday.

He stated that it is only through the withdrawal that Kenya would have a free and fair election.

Wiper Democratic Movement Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka stated: "All indications are that the election scheduled for 26th October will be worse than the previous one."
