Kenya's Trending Topics on 12th October 2017

Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on Thursday caused a stir on social media after his announcement banning protests in Nairobi CBD.

Under the topic CS Matiangi, Kenyans on Twitter shared their reactions to the announcement with some condemning the move.

Some social media users approved of the decision citing that the anti-IEBC protests had turned violent.

The statement by Dr Matiang'i explained that: "In accordance with the law, due to the recent breach of peace as witnessed, the government will not allow demonstrations in Nairobi CBD, Mombasa and Kisumu."

The two cities were on the top trends following the announcement by Dr Matiang'i banning demonstrations in those regions.

According to the notice, NASA supporters will not be allowed to conduct their protests within the Central Business District (CBD) of each of the cities, including Nairobi.

Agriculture CS Willy Bett

Agriculture CS Willy Bett was a topic of discussion on Thursday after he announced that the Government would buy a 90 kg bag of maize at Sh3,200 from Kenyan farmers.

The amount is Sh200 up from the 2016 buying price and will kick off on Monday.

Various commentators shared their view of the former Prime Minister's trip while others shared photos of the Opposition leader in London.

Mr Odinga was scheduled to speak on democracy and the political landscape in Kenya at the Chatham House, Royal Institute of International Affairs.

The Kenyan retailer was on the trend list after they won the Brand of the Year Award at the World Branding Awards in London.

Citizen TV was also feted as the Best Brand in the Broadcasting – Television category at the event.

Francis Atwoli

COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli topped the trends after he sent an urgent appeal to NASA leader and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The trade unionist appealed to the leaders to consider a joint meeting and proposed a list of ten leaders who could act as mediators.
