  • National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi on Thursday overturned the nomination of Suba South MP John Mbadi as the proposed NASA Minority Leader stating that due process was not followed.

Justifying his actions, Muturi accused the Opposition of indecisiveness regarding the leadership in the parliamentary house.

"I have received many letters, from ODM, Ford-Kenya, ANC claiming to have agreed on certain position," he stated adding that the NASA affiliate parties have differing views.

"Surely, how do you expect me to make a decision? Please just follow the procedure as provided in the Standing Orders,” Mr Muturi noted.

According to the Standing Order 20(4), the Minority Whip is the only person allowed to communicate to the Speaker over House leadership.

He directed the NASA legislators to hold a meeting and have a consensual agreement on the matter and finally submit the list by November 17, when the House resumes from recess.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Chairman agreed to observe the standing orders as ordered by the Speaker.

“Our coalition has been in consultation over this matter from both the Senate and the National Assembly. However, I hear that the communication we have been doing has not been proper,” Mbadi stated.

As per the list submitted by NASA, Mr Mbadi was to be the Minority Leader and Lugari MP of Amani National Congress Ayub Savula as his deputy.

Kathiani MP Robert Mbui was the proposed whip deputized by Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa of Ford Kenya.
