Matiang'i Speaks After Public Fight With NASA Leader

Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has broken his silence after a publicised debacle involving Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula.

Dr Matiang'i maintains that he has no regrets after dismissing Wetangula's inquiries via SMS as sheer "nonsense".

The NASA principal had texted the Education CS questioning his decision to ban anti-IEBC protests within Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu central business districts.

"I used the 'nonsense' response to Wetangula because what he said was the same as that.

"I used an English word which means that what you are saying is not sensible. And it is there as an English word in the dictionary so that you can use it to express yourself when something that someone is telling you does not make sense," the CS explained to Citizen TV.

During a Thursday press conference, Mr Wetangula made public the correspondence he had shared with the Interior Ministry boss.

He revealed that he had sent Dr Matiang'i an SMS that read: "Mr Matiangi, why don't you engage a lawyer to advise you on the constitutionality of your actions, utterances and threats to innocent Kenyans. You have no power or capacity to ban lawful protests."

An angry Bungoma Senator went on to label Dr Matiang'i as "arrogant, distasteful and unfit to hold public office."

The text elicited the dismissive response from the Education CS who has since conveyed that his reaction is not illegal.
