NASA Cancels Anti-IEBC Demos Countrywide

The National Super Alliance (NASA) on Monday called off anti-IEBC protests scheduled for Tuesday countrywide.

In a statement, Opposition Leader Raila Odinga's spokesman Dennis Onyango stated that this was to allow the coalition attend to supporters brutalised and hurt during Monday demos.

"This is a temporary step to enable the coalition to attend to the supporters who were brutalized and hurt and families that lost loved ones today (Monday) after police and State-protected goons descended on protesters and NASA leaders.

"The nationwide protests will resume on Wednesday, October 18, 2017. The Coalition directs all its supporters to stay off the streets tomorrow," the statement read in part.

Mr Onyango took a swipe at the police for allegedly using excessive force on the protesters and NASA leaders who were demonstrating peacefully.

In the Monday demos, one student was shot dead in Kondele, Kisumu County.

Opposition Members of Parliament were also teargassed as they tried to access the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

"In the meantime, NASA condemns the unfolding policy of ethnic profiling and use of brutal and lethal force being meted out on protesters," Onyango stated.

The coalition called on human rights activists o human rights to keenly watch and take note of the police brutality that was being unleashed on the demonstrators.
