DP Ruto Now Accepts Dialogue With Raila on 1 Condition

Deputy President William Ruto has accepted to dialogue with National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga but only after the October election.

During a Tuesday meeting with foreign correspondents in his official residence in Nairobi, the DP dismissed any claims of having talks with the opposition leader ahead of the fresh polls.

“We are ready to engage with our competitors – post elections,” he declared.

DP Ruto added that as Jubilee, they were opposed to the inclusion of Dr Aukot in the repeat election.

"They (NASA) supported Aukot when he filed an application in Court to be included in the election. Now that he's participating they do not want him to.

"We actually opposed the inclusion of Aukot which leads us to ask when did he become our project?" he posed.

He further dismissed the formation of a coalition government as undemocratic and unrealistic.

“What does a political settlement mean? That there will not be a political settlement in Kenya? Then it would mean we will be in a circus forever where a loser will foment a crisis then force us to sit on the table for negotiations.

“What stops another leader creating a crisis in other elections so that they can share power? What happens to the Constitution, which provides that leaders are elected by the people?” he conveyed.

On Tuesday, Mr Odinga stated that he wanted to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta to discuss electoral reforms but not to negotiate a power-sharing deal.

Odinga was speaking at Wilson Airport where he rubbished reports that he is pushing for a nusu-mkate (coalition) government.

The Opposition leader is pushing for reforms at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and had issued a number of 'irreducible minimums' that he wanted to be addressed.
