Wafula Chebukati / #Chebukati

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman sparked a lot of reaction with his statement after the resignation of commissioner Roselyne Akombe.

His speech which was relatively longer than expected created a lot of uncertainties on his future at the electoral body.

Throughout his speech, the tone of progression signaled he was resigning, only for him to announce his dedication to ensuring a credible election.

He admitted that the political players were interfereing with preparations for the presidential election adding that he could not guarantee a credible poll.

He further stated that several attempts to persuade a majority of the commissioners to adopt critical changes before the repeat poll was defeated by the majority.

Chebukati, therefore, called on the secretariat who have been largely blamed for bungling the August election to step aside and pave the way for a seven-member project team to oversee the presidential election.

Netizens expressed their disappointment with many of them suggesting that Chebukati should have resigned from office.

Roselyne Akombe

The former IEBC commissioner was top of the trend for the better part of the morning hours moments after she announced her resignation while in the United States.

Ms Akombe, who allegedly flew to Dubai to monitor printing of presidential ballot papers, surprised many Kenyans when she announced the news through an interview with International media BBC.

Some of the Kenyans, especially on social media, thought she had done the noble thing by unveiling cracks in the commission in his resignation letter.

National Prayer Day

Reacting to the resignation of Commissioner Roselyne Akombe, President Uhuru Kenyatta stirred a heated debate when he called on the country for a national prayer day scheduled for Sunday.

His statement sparked a lot of reactions from netizens who indicated that Mr Kenyatta's speech was not genuine.

Immediately after issuing the address, he embarked on a campaign trail in Laikipia with an entirely different tone.

Jimmy Wanjigi

The prominent businessman resurfaced a day after the police launched a two-day raid on his home without tracing him.

Mr Wanjigi, who is reportedly the NASA financier, has been in the limelight after police recovered five guns and 93 bullets in a Malindi home linked to him.

On Tuesday, the police descended on the Muthaiga home with the intention of arresting him. However, the businessman sought protection through an anticipatory bail.

In a press conference, Mr Wanjigi revealed that the government has ill intentions of portraying him as a criminal yet he has legit licenses for his guns.
